Workshops

Little Green Steps WA will provide focused professional development in staff meeting times. This includes the range of topics listed below or we can respond to a particular focus for your staff. The one hour session can be extended by delivering over a period of time to assist in strategic planning to meet the sustainability outcomes required.

For example we have recently delivered one hour sessions over a three month period for a local centre. This built educators knowledge and skills about what sustainabilty means, practical activities to consider and ending in a planning session to begin their journey.

Little Green Steps WA will provide EY Teachers, Service Directors and Sustainability Coordinators with a step by step framework for creating a Sustainability Actions Plan for their early years setting and schools.

Getting started with practical sustainable actions, share best practice case studies and information on Education and Care Regulatory outcomes. Incorprating a guided action planning session using LGSWA Sustainable audit sheets.

Introduction to Sustainability is designed as an overview to what ‘sustainability’ means. We  encourage you think about what you already do and how you can practically embed sustainability in your practice. You will be introduced to the Sustainable Schools WA framework that can assist with a holistic approach. Connections to the EYLFV2, NQS and Australian Curriculum will be made clear.

It is recommended you book a focus workshops for more specific topics and activities.

LGS WA has joined forces with the One World Centre and is offering a new workshop on 'culture', how it fits in with sustainability, EYLF, NQS and the Australian Curriculum. This is an interactive workshop that is sure to get you thinking a little differently.

This workshop is hands-on learning about all this waste. Which item goes into which bin? It is tailored to your local area as every city has different waste management. Whenever possible we try to bring in a guest speaker from your local government. Referencing to the NQS, EYLF and SSWA framework, you would be surprised at how this topic will excite you and your staff!

Join Little Green Steps to learn about water in WA, where it comes from,  where it goes and how we use it. This curriculum linked workshop will provide educators with hands-on ways to teach young children waterwise practices and addresses the reasons for conserving and protecting our waterways and fresh water in existence on this planet right now and for future generations.  There will also be a planning strategies sessions to help services to be more waterwise.

This workshop explores the importance of addressing sustainable energy, air and transport practices into early years services with practical information to save on bills and resources. Hands-on curriculum linked activities will help educators embed practices into children’s everyday routines. The benefit of energy audits and plan for infrastructure changes.

Birds, Bees, Bugs, All Livings things .... this workshop will explore the importance of diverse biological environments and habitats and provide educators with hands -on ways to embed biodiversity awareness into the day to day of early years settings.  This workshop with link to  'citizen science' and action based projects in local WA communities thus giving children agency to make a difference by protecting and conserving biologically diverse environments.

This is a great general introduction to sustainability that provides a solid foundation for anyone working in the early years settings with practical, real life examples on how to begin, or continue to embed sustainability in your service. With a holistic approach, the workshop introduces the Sustainable Schools WA framework to sustainability, waste solutions relative to your local area, green cleaning and connecting children with the outdoors.

This workshop is 4 hours and is recommended for most centres as the first workshop. It goes through an introduction to what sustainability means in an Early Learning service and how it fits in with the NQS, EYLF and Australian Curriculum.

This workshop can be run in one session, or over 2 nights to meet the needs of  services. Please note that there will be limited availability for workshops run over 2 nights, and participants must attend both nights.
